Yes, it's ugly, but that's the point. It tends to be the only way to get people to remove the code.
It could be worse... I'm still considering whether or not to make it more severe.
I can't e-mail expired / invalid / deleted BlogBack accounts because, frankly, I have no idea who is using them. All I have is a BlogID and a load of comments.
Luckily, as you've found, the script does this for me by automatically informing users of any errors.
(By the way, I only found this site through a search on daypop.)
As "HaDeZ" appears to have mentioned above, if you want to the banner to disappear, all you have to do is remove the one line referring to BlogBack in your HEAD code.
PS. Comparing BlogBack and Blogalia is a bit unfair. I mean, first of all, BlogBack isn't a weblogging system and, second of all, it's remote and detached from any particular weblogging system. That's like comparing a keyboard to a computer.
